Commercial Times News | Turning Agricultural Waste into Green Gold, WE-WIN BIO-MEDICAL CO., LTD. Achieves 30% Growth

    April 17, 2023

WE-WIN BIO-MEDICAL CO., LTD., through its subsidiary B&M International Biotech, has made significant strides in the global skincare market! Recently, the company successfully entered the Thai market, a strategic move that showcases their growing international presence. This entry into Thailand was documented in a photo featuring Chairman Bella Hsieh (謝慧萍), CEO James Hsieh (謝震), and General Manager Michael Yeh (葉昶良) of BenQ Medical Thailand, a subsidiary of BenQ Qisda (Photo provided by WE-WIN BIO-MEDICAL CO., LTD.).

Beauty—a fascinating concept that WE-WIN BIO-MEDICAL CO., LTD. has transformed through technology. The company turns agricultural waste, such as Roselle seeds and red quinoa shells, into regenerated raw materials for beauty products, turning what was once waste into dazzling 'green gold' skincare ingredients. This year, the company expects a 30% increase in performance compared to last year and is looking towards advancing towards the capital markets.

CEO James Hsieh (謝震) noted that the inspiration for this new invention came from Taitung farmers who struggled with what to do with an excess of Roselle seeds and red quinoa shells. Partnering with Professor Zhang Fang Rong (張芳榮), former head of the National Institute of Chinese Medicine and now at Kaohsiung Medical University's Natural Medicine Research Institute, they discovered that Roselle seeds could aid in skin repair and soothing.

However, developing this was not easy. James Hsieh (謝震) explained that since the harvesting period for Roselle seeds is only from September to December, any missed collection means waiting another year. Moreover, obtaining uncontaminated raw materials is challenging. Therefore, they had to find clean and valuable agricultural waste. This involved working with farmers on environmentally friendly planting methods and ensuring the harvested materials were dried and stored properly to prevent mold and bacteria during transportation. To increase employment and income for indigenous farmers, they even went to the Matsu islands to collect Roselle seeds. Without prior research literature, the WE-WIN research team spent at least 2-3 years developing the perfect essence and creams.

Speaking on the R&D journey, James Hsieh (謝震) pointed out that developing each botanical active ingredient, from sourcing, extraction methods, to active ingredient verification, takes at least 2-3 years. The company must use current science or past experiences to explore the unknown, with only about a 1% to 2% chance of success out of a 5% likelihood, in a sea of possibilities for finding something uniquely valuable for patent application. These inventions are expected to contribute to humanity and society, and the company now holds 23 patents, building a long-term intellectual property portfolio.

Established nearly 30 years ago, WE-WIN BIO-MEDICAL CO., LTD. initially used local produce as raw materials, utilizing biotechnology to extract essences from economically valuable plants like camphor leaves, agarwood leaves, guava leaves, and others, while also developing recycled agricultural waste. With core values centered on natural, herbal, and environmental friendliness, WE-WIN has developed many natural plant-based products under its own brands like Neulucy, ABH-8 (Dazzling Princess), NHH (Natural, Healthy, Herbal) skincare, and Aperdu (Ambert Extract) hair care products, penetrating the global beauty and skincare market.

WE-WIN BIO-MEDICAL CO., LTD. aims towards ESG-friendly environment goals, high-quality plant extracts, recycling waste for value, and a circular economy. James Hsieh (謝震) mentioned that besides supplying OEM and ODM raw materials to Taiwanese cosmetic brands, they also develop raw materials for international major brands and sell their own brands NHH and Neulucy through salon channels, establishing a comprehensive marketing network. Their products, cleverly concentrated and combined, turn into useful skincare, beauty, and cosmetic products, fulfilling social responsibilities, satisfying the beauty needs of women, and achieving profitability, creating a win-win-win situation.
